Mary Ruth Benthall, 64, of Roanoke Rapids died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mary was a native of Halifax County, the daughter of the late Eugene and Sarah Bolton Benthall. She was a graduate of Weldon High School and Halifax Community College Nursing School, Class of 1978. She was employed with the ICU department of Halifax Regional Medical Center and Guardian Care.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela B. Smith and her husband, Lee, of Roanoke Rapids; four granddaughters, Jessica Dayne Smith, Miranda Faith Smith, and twins, Kayleigh Dianan Smith and Morrigan Elizabeth Smith; her brother, Eugene V. Benthall and his wife, Linda; two nephews, Jonathan Benthall and his wife, Angela, all of Roanoke Rapids, and David Benthall of Chapel Hill; a special son, Craig Manning and his wife, Rhonda, and their son, Conner, of Gaston; special friends, Jimmy and Melinda King; and lifelong friend, Nancy Wood and her husband, Samuel.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 19, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at 600 Park Ave., Roanoke Rapids.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon with Rev. Sue Owens and Rev. Jimmy King officiating.
